Devi Ahilya University was established as Indore University in the year 1964 in Madhya Pradesh. Its jurisdiction was limited to Indore district.
In the year 1988, the university was renamed as Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya. At the time of reorganization of the universities, jurisdiction DAVV Indore was expanded over to Indore division that spans over 7 districts.
